Six years??  Can that be right?  Wow…I guess my life is already starting to flash before my eyes.  Yep, I got into this game when it launched in 2001 and played it for almost two years.  Great, great game and I have many fond memories of my adventures there.  I actually wished I had played it longer, but at the time Horizons was calling my name and I was in their beta (Ugh…that was a dumb move in retrospect).

DAoC Producer Chris Rabideau posted some words of appreciation to the fans at the Camelot Herald:

Hello all, It’s been six truly wonderful years since Dark Age of Camelot first opened its servers to the hungry Realm versus Realm masses; six years of high intensity melee combat and countless magical explosions on the battlefields of the Frontiers; six years of the deadliest and most compelling siege warfare ever seen in any live MMO to date. Six years and still counting…

(stuff about the game)

I realize this post is more of a Producer’s Letter and less a celebration of DAoC’s 6th anniversary.  However, I hope my message conveys the facts that Dark Age of Camelot, after six fantastic years, still has a tremendous following, and still receives a tremendous amount of developer support.  We are committed to this game and we will continue to work hard to ensure that Dark Age of Camelot remains a truly fun and enjoyable gameplay experience.

From all of us here at EA Mythic, we thank you for six wonderful years, and we hope to see you around for many, many more.

Chris Rabideau, Producer, Dark Age of Camelot, EA Mythic, October 10, 2007

Finally, I can’t let the sixth anniversary go by without giving a shout out to my old DAoC guild, Silver Daggers.  Good bunch of folks.  Happy Anniversary DAoC!

WTH, it’s only been 6 years? I played DAOC since it took its first breath and it feels like it’s been 10 years or more. Since DAOC I’ve played so many other games that haven’t quite lifted up to the warm fuzzies I got from hibernia, midgard, and albion. :( Perhaps that’s why it seems like an eternity.

I’ve been tempted to go back and play lately…

I really did have a blast with this game, and wish I had played longer. But I guess now we’ll have War. :)

Woot woot. DAoC was a hell of a game and I am glad I played it for the three years that I did. If it wasn’t for my time crunch, I would probably go back and take a swing at DAoC Classic servers.

In some ways it doesn’t seem like 6 years, but in others it seems far, far longer.

I miss our community on palomides. Lots of good folks there- i consider myself lucky to have ended up there.

In a strange twist of fate, several years later we found ourselves raiding with some of our favorite hibbies on WoW Silver hand.

Blame Hidien for pointing us all your way, btw.

Hey Shyosh!! Looong time no see hehe. For those who don’t know, Shyosh was co-raid leader with me in DAoC as we led massive raids into Caer Sidi. Ah…good times. :)

Thanks so much for dropping by and keep in touch. Take a look at Warhammer Online as well if you haven’t already. Would be great to hook up again in another MMO.

To add on to my previous comment, I am glad to have made the choice of Midgard/Merlin. Best server community I’ve ever been a part of.

I just picked up DAoC again, after becoming disenchanted by LotRO. I must say, they’ve done a nice job getting it updated. Better interface controls, new models, new icons. It really does a decent job of playing like a modern MMO, and (not surprisingly) it plays fantastically on a modern machine.

There’s tons of stuff to do and the RvR is still the best. The leveling curve has been dramatically flattened. I took my cleric from 48.5 to 50 in a little over a day.

Also, the folks still there are the cool dedicated folks. Most of the griefers seem to have moved on to other games.

I’m finding that it’s a great time to be playing DAoC again…

Well I took the plunge and am also back in DAoC :P Go figure!

    BTW Classic servers ftw.

  9. Kevin says:

After seeing what both you guys have to say, I must say it’s tempting to fire up my DAoC account again. I wonder if my characters would still be there after four years?

Yes :) Alts I created on day 1 and never played are still there.
