As seen over at TTH:
Prepare to dial in because you’ll be traveling via Stargate in a year!
There’s no need to adjust your computer monitor, you’ve read the headline correctly. Stargate Worlds, the upcoming sci-fi MMORPG being developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and based off of the long-running television series Stargate SG-1, will be hitting your computers in the fourth quarter of 2008. The news was slipped to us by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment’s senior marketing manager, Kevin Balentine, as he discussed how the development of the game was progressing. Here’s what Kevin had to say:
“We’ve got a playable version of the game inside of our building. I’m not prepared to release our beta schedule yet, but I can say that we’re going to be releasing the game in the fourth quarter of next year. You can do the math and figure out when our beta program will be.”
If you haven’t check out the game much yet, you can head on over to their site and take a look around. I personally loved the movie but have never really watched the t.v. series. But from what I do know, I think SGW would have tons of options for what they could do with their world. Endless stargates to an ever increasing number of worlds? Wow. Looking forward to hearing more about this title and their beta program.

Of course, that isn’t yet accounting for the obligatory “polish” postponement into Q1 2009…
I dunno about this game. At all. Loved the movie, loved SG-1, haven’t watched Atlantis yet. I love that the tv studios and writers have an involvement. But some of the stuff I’ve read like “we want players to reach the level cap fast and roll alts” and “we have some planets you’ll only ever see for 15 minutes” bothers me. Perhaps I’m just thinking backwards, but the whole “cap fast and make alts” just smacks of not enough content to play one character through. Which is sad, given that the whole concept of Stargates opens so many possibilities.

I have my doubts, but not for those reasons. An emphasis on replayability doesn’t mean there’s not a lot of content or a lack of depth. It’s just a different style of game. Though you might be right, of course, Talyn.
A Q4 ‘08 release date is definitely BS at this point. Any release date more than 2 months out is probably BS. Any release date more than 6 months out is a brazen lie.

I hope they do not postpone the release date, but as with everything that i want to get they always postpone it, it would be great to get a beta invite as this may start up in the summer at some point…. iam a huge fan of stargate atlantis and sg1 i just hope they dont mess up the stargate franchise.
I hope they make it diffeerent from other MMO’s also, because as talyn says above the Stargate really does open up an almost unlimited amount of possibilities on technology, upgrades, worlds, expansions.
