Mark Jacobs on Warhammer PvP Flagging
ByWell over at Warhammer Alliance, Mark Jacobs stopped in to post a couple of replies on the thread about pvp flagging which has grown to over 14,000 views and 738 replies since last week. While he doesn’t go into any details regarding pvp flagging or Mythic’s specific plans, he generally addresses the hooplah. Here were his brief, to-the-point replies:
Folks,
Hey, I have a good idea. Why doesn’t everyone wait till we reopen the Beta before passing judgment? Foolish, I know, it’s much, much more fun to pass judgment on us before you have all the facts…
BTW, I can tell you that everyone on this board who has posted about what we will do, may do and why it will suck, may suck, will rock, etc. is wrong as of today. The reason is because we are still looking at different options, plans, etc. for that part of our game. So, until we know, there is nobody here (even those who were in the beta) who know what we are working on for this aspect of RvR, nobody, even me since I’m still in those discussions with the team.
Mark
AND
Folks,
I’m not mad at anyone, just pointing out that before you pass judgment on us (as opposed to simply talking, debating, etc. amongst yourselves) it’s useful to see what we are going to do in the game. We understand the risks, have seen or played other games and have, of course, created DAoC’s RvR system. We might, at times, make stupid mistakes like everyone else but we are not stupid.
Oh, and isn’t the reason we have Beta tests to test out the game, point out what’s going wrong, what’s going right and then make adjustments?
Mark
So they’ve definitely been watching the reaction to the pvp flagging news in this thread. Although I never thought this news meant the sky was falling, it got a lot of people in a bit of a panic, as evidenced by the view and post count. Life’s too short – I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt and trust that they’ll still be making a good game, whatever they decide with pvp flagging. But then again I’m pretty easy going.
I think the idea of being able to see your enemy and not be able to attack him is heinous. I could honestly care less if some PvE areas are shared so long as it has PvP enabled. My honest opinion on the matter is that they are cutting a corner and got trapped. They want to make sure the PvE crowd isn’t forced into RVR but they cut off their nose to spite their face by adding flagging – which ruins immersion and feel of Warhammer all together.
Mark is a sharp cookie and I have been behind the concept of “beta” being the time to test these things. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and sadly even if flagging makes it into the game I’m still going to pick it up without a second thought. Definitely not a sky is falling moment but one that could rub me the wrong way.
Yeah I will end up getting War probably no matter what. I still have faith that they’ll implement things in a way that makes sense. So I’m willing to wait and see. I just wish Mark had more to say on the matter than what he did.
Maybe I’m interpreting text over the internet wrong but his tone was a bit rough too. Seems that they KNOW they’re in hot water over this one big time.
I’m pretty sure I’ll end up playing WAR as well however the one thing that scares me about Mythic, as demonstrated in DAoC, is that they listen far to much to the whinersand complainers on the differn’t forums. I saw a lot of very poorly implemented changes go into DAoC based on this only to have those changes either pulled or toned down in later patches all in the name of “balancing”. I hope that they learned some lessons from DAoC.
